PROGRAM NOTES

Drawing on farce and satire, the musical, set in mid-19th-century Russia and as seen through the eyes of Panko, the red-haired beekeeper, is about two landowners and neighbours whose petty quarrel involving a gun, a sow, and a gander, leads to their mutual ruin.
